For Delhi Capitals, clash against Rajasthan Royals a prestige battle

Delhi Capitals

Jaipur: Rajasthan started the 17th season by defeating Lucknow Supergiants. In that match, Rajasthan captain Samson played a brilliant half-century. Delhi’s batting was not good in the last match and it had to face defeat by four wickets.

Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals, who started the IPL 2024 season with a defeat against Punjab Kings, will be eyeing a win in the match against Rajasthan Royals. This match between the two teams will be played at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Delhi’s batting was not good in the last match and it had to face defeat by four wickets.

Seeing the way Samson was batting against Lucknow, it seemed that he was in good form. In such a situation, it will be a challenge for the Delhi bowlers to stop Samson. Samson’s record as the captain of Rajasthan is also better. During this period his strike rate has been 145. This is the second highest strike rate in IPL history after Virender Sehwag. Sehwag’s strike rate was 168.

For Rajasthan, Riyan Parag can again be seen playing at number four. However, in the last few seasons he has not been able to perform  for his franchise. Riyan’s role in the team has been to score runs quickly and finish the match, but this season Rajasthan has made a slight change in its batting line-up.

Parag was sent to bat at number four against Lucknow Supergiants and he took advantage of this opportunity and scored 43 runs in 29 balls. Even against Delhi, it is expected that Parag will bat at number four.
Fast bowler Anrich Nortje is ready to return to the Delhi team after injury. Nortje could not play in the last match against Punjab and his return to the team will strengthen Delhi’s fast bowling attack. Nortje has joined the Delhi team and it is expected that he will get a place in the playing eleven in today’s match. Mukesh Kumar and Khalil Ahmed can take charge in the bowling department with him. Nortje’s performance in 2022 and 2023 was nothing special. In the 2022 season, he took nine wickets in six matches and in 2023, he took 10 wickets in 10 matches.

Delhi Capitals did not include Prithvi Shaw in the team in the first match against Punjab. Shai Hope came out to bat in that match and played an inning of 33 runs in 25 balls. Some questions were raised about not playing Prithvi in the last match and it is possible that the team may give a chance to this Indian batsman. It will be interesting to see whether Hope will get another chance?

Probable playing 11 of both the teams

Delhi Capitals: David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant (captain and wicketkeeper), Tristan Stubbs, Abhishek Porel, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Anrich Nortje, Khalil Ahmed.
